Neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs)— both depolarizing and nondepolarizing—are an integral component of general anesthesia. Their purpose is to induce reliable, reversible skeletal muscle paralysis in order to facilitate endotracheal intubation, optimize surgical exposure and maintain immobility during surgical procedures.
