ASA-Lifebox Resident Challenge: An Annual Fundraiser to Increase Global Access to Essential Safety Monitors

In the United States, it is mandatory to monitor all patients receiving anesthesia care for adequate oxygenation and ventilation. But in low-resource countries, patients regularly undergo surgery in operating rooms that lack pulse oximeters and capnographs. This absence of essential safety monitors leads to high rates of surgical complications—including death—for millions of patients worldwide.
